Artist Statement
My practice explores states of suspension between memory and erasure, body and structure, promise and disappearance.
I work across installation, performance, poetry, painting, and textile-based sculpture. I am interested in how language and material shape experiences of transition, fragility, and identity.
A turning point in my practice was Daedalus (2023), where I reinterpreted myth through sculptural wings and embodied poetry to confront technological acceleration and human vulnerability. The body became both creator and captive, an image that continues to inform my work.
Since then, I have focused on thresholds: legal liminality, collective inscription, ritual participation, and memory erosion. Mirrors, thread, suspended structures, and landscape recur as metaphors of permeability between past and future, presence and absence.
I increasingly approach memory and identity as ecological conditions, fragile systems shaped by erosion, accumulation, and interdependence. Across mediums, I treat language as architecture. Words can bind, suspend, fracture, or release.
My work builds environments where vulnerability becomes awareness and where viewers inhabit the threshold between becoming and disappearing.
Bio
Nidia Baquero is a Miami-based poet, visual artist, and performance practitioner whose interdisciplinary work moves between installation, performance, textile sculpture, painting, and sound.
Her practice gained visibility with Daedalus (2023), a durational performance-installation presented at Miami International Fine Arts (MIFA), which marked a shift toward immersive and participatory environments. Since then, her work has expanded into installations such as I Promise, Invite Me Into Your Silence, and Ephemeral, where language, material structures, and audience participation shape the experience of time and vulnerability.
Baquero’s work has been exhibited at Miami International Fine Arts (MIFA), the XI International Biennial of Contemporary Textile Art (WTA 2025), and Clandestina Art Fair. She continues to develop spatial works that investigate memory, fragility, and embodied language.
