Cycles: The Stages of Motherhood

DESCRIPTION
The Poet’s Lair is a one-to-one immersive performance structured around perceptual transition and moral choice. Participants enter a room in complete darkness where, after visual adaptation, a blue spiral of sand and stone gradually emerges across the floor and walls.
At its center, two chairs await: one wooden, one covered in sharp marble fragments. The participant decides where the artist will sit — comfort or discomfort — initiating the performance through a deliberate act of responsibility.
Through blindfold, live voice, and a minimal soundscape, the poem Permanecerás unfolds in proximity. The recitation shifts in tone, rhythm, and spatial direction in response to each participant’s presence, transforming language into an embodied acoustic experience.
CONTEXT
The work operates as a liminal structure between light and darkness, comfort and pain, control and exposure. By relocating poetry from page to spatial encounter, the performance examines vulnerability as relational condition and reconfigures spectatorship as shared yet asymmetrical presence.
